In comparison to my Customer Profile, I can state that the older the person, the more likely that they will listen to the radio due the popularity of the radio being higher in the olden times compared to now. However, since the person I interviewed is not too old (21 years old), the development of music and technology over the years has attracted him more in comparison to the radio.
D) PRODUCTION PROCESS
E) MARKET SHARE
what is the current trend in market share? What could the reason be for this trend?
Currently, the trend in market share is decreasing due to other Platforms taking over and attracting more listeners. Examples of these Platforms include: Spotify, Youtube and Apple Music. Also, due to technology improving drastically, this can lead to listeners preferring to listen to music in cars via bluetooth or aux cable instead if the radio, which overall can encourage this decrease.
What is the trend over the last 15 years in market share? What could the reason be for this trend?
The trend over the last 15 years for market share has decreased as the years have improved. This may be due to the fact that as the years have increased, the number of younger people within the generation has increased. This theory overall can lead to the popularity of radio decreasing due to the idea that radio is aimed more for older audiences (e.g. elderly people) instead of younger audiences.
Explain what has happened to the industry between the highest and lowest point of weekly audience?
In terms of the industry, during June 2007, the radio was at its highest peak with over 150,000 listeners. Also, during 2018, the radio was at its lowest point with over 70,000 listeners. This level of decrease may have taken place due to technology improving during these years (e.g. bluetooth and aux cable being developed) as well as other Platforms having more recognition compared to radio (e.g. Spotify, Youtube, Apple music).
